The seventh version of iOS, the operating system of Apple's mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch), was released in September of 2013, receiving its latest official update in April of 2014. The latter mainly stood out due to the great overhaul of the user interface, other than new features and functions.

The best thing about iOS 7? Its maps

But if we have to remember just one feature of Apple iOS 7, that definitely has to be its maps application. Due to a license conflict regarding Google Maps, the latter was replaced by Apple's own software. However, users soon started to complain about the huge mistakes and inaccurate locations it offered, forcing the company to make an apology and recommend other apps that could be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.

The design change and the maps error were the most eye-catching features of iOS 7.

Apart from that, these were some of the most important features introduced with the new iOS, considered as the greatest change to iOS since the original iPhone, affecting functions such as the following:

  • Control center.
  • Multitasking.
  • Safari.
  • AirDrop.
  • Camera.
  • Trustworthy devices.
  • Photos.
  • Siri.
  • CarPlay.
  • App Store.
  • iTunes Radio and Music.
  • Dynamic live wallpapers.
  • Find My iPhone function.

Nevertheless, not all these functions were available for all devices, with the iPhone 5 as the flagship phone that included them all. It received several updates, such as 7.1 and 7.1.2 (the last one), until it was finally replaced by iOS 8.

Apple iOS 7 was only compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad Mini or later, and the 5th generation iPod touch.
