Google Talk, also known as Gtalk, is Google's offer to the world of instant messaging, the main advantage of which is the possibility to let the user know if he/she has received new mail in his Gmail account, by means of simple desktop notifications.

Make video calls from Google.

To improve this popular messaging client's communication capabilities, the developers from GLabs offer the complement Google Voice and Video, a small utility that adds the possibility of free voice and video calls to improve communications with Gmail contacts.

How does it work?

Google Voice and Video is very easy to use. Once installed on your computer, all you have to do is access your usual Gmail account and open a chat window to invite any of your Gmail contacts to the conversation. From the conversation window, just beside the name of the contact, we'll be able to see an icon with the shape of a camera that indicates whether there's an active video connection. Otherwise, if we don't have a webcam, we can choose to start a voice conversation, as long as we have a microphone and some speakers or headphones connected to the computer.

Enjoy the new video and voice chat functions that Google offers from Gtalk.

Requirements and additional information:
  • Works with Windows XP or above.
  • Requires a Gmail account and to have both Flash Player and Google Talk installed.
  • To make the most of this utility, it's advisable to have a webcam, speakers or headphones, and a microphone.
