Before you begin your titanic task in High School Story, you must create your character, which you can customize to your liking. You have to enter a name, a gender, and a physical appearance. You also choose among different types of students: nerd, sportsman, or preppy. This will influence the kind of school you are going to set up and run.

Once the game starts, players see that your dream school is a building site. Your job is to create a high school from the ground up. That is, this is a classic resource management game, albeit seasoned with some additions. You have to build all kinds of buildings, such as classrooms, libraries, laboratories, cafeterias, and the secretary's office with the resources you get from the students and with the missions.

You will also take part in conversations where you must choose your own answers that have an impact on history. Additionally, as you move forward in the game, you can organize parties and science fairs, date other students, train the soccer team, etc. By and large, everything one can do to make a school unique and an educational benchmark.
