The new sandbox game that combines role-playing, adventure, building, and creativity

Hytale for PC is a sandbox adventure and building game with a randomly generated, virtually infinite world. This title combines exploration, combat, and equipment crafting with RPG and fantasy elements. It features several game modes, including Creative Mode and Survival Mode.

The origins of Hytale

Hytale emerged from Hypixel, a successful Minecraft server created by Simon Collins-Laflamme and Philip Touchet. In 2018, they announced the development of their own game inspired by Minecraft, but with unique features. In 2020, Riot Games (creators of League of Legends) acquired Hypixel Studios. After years of complicated development, the project was canceled in 2025; however, Simon Collins-Laflamme managed to buy back the game and continued working on it. This finally led to a release date for Hytale; in early access, of course, but at least the fans finally have the answer to the question, “When is Hytale coming out?” Hytale was officially released on January 13, 2026, marking a new beginning for this ambitious title.

Minecraft clone or Minecraft killer?

Although Hytale employs a voxel-art-based graphic style (cube-based designs similar to Minecraft), it offers more advanced textures and animations that give it its own unique visual identity. It also incorporates action RPG elements, such as boss encounters and dungeons, which enrich the experience to set it apart from typical sandbox games.

Hytale also includes a creative mode and a powerful world editor, designed to encourage creativity and customization, surpassing the classic Minecraft options in several ways. But it does not only stand out in terms of functionality: its performance is better optimized thanks to its own engine developed in C# and C++, unlike Minecraft, which uses Java. This ensures greater stability and superior performance, especially on less powerful computers.

For all these reasons, Hytale is not a Minecraft clone, nor does it claim to be a “Minecraft killer.” Rather, it is a solid alternative within the sandbox genre.

What can you expect from Hytale?

Hytale invites us to explore Orbis, the main planet where the adventure unfolds, a world rich in varied biomes and inhabited by iconic factions such as the Kweebecs, Trorks, and Outlanders. One of its great strengths is its in-game scripting capability, allowing players to program custom behaviors and events within the game (and yes, you can already run Doom on Hytale), greatly expanding the creative possibilities and depth of gameplay.

In addition, Hytale makes it easy to install mods that you can find on forums related to the game, such as the Hytale Reddit and other specialized communities. Thanks to the official tools provided by the developers, modifying the game is accessible even to users without lots of programming experience. This ease of creating Hytale mods helps expand the content, which is complemented by the existence of official and community servers, where players can enjoy different game modes, events, and challenges. To complete the experience, Hytale already has several marketplaces where players can buy and sell cosmetics, skins, and community-made creations.
