Microsoft Office 2008 can be updated for free to improve its stability and security regarding external attacks. Ever since it was released, the reality of computer systems has changed ever so much. To such an extent that Microsoft has decided to spare us an upset by offering us the download an update pack from an official link: Microsoft Office 2008 SP1.

Bearing in mind how fast technology evolves, and the extended use of newer versions of this software such as 2010 or 2016, the fact that a program that was released almost 10 years ago is still receiving support is a blessing. The users of this office suite must be grateful that they continue to guarantee the system's security.

When Microsoft added the X

It was in this version of Office 2008 the first time we discovered the possibility to use XML documents, adding an X to the traditional DOC, XLS, and PPT extensions: DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX. Many users weren't fully aware of this change and thought it was an error, which caused an uproar for quite a few months, although one only had to read Microsoft's information to realize what was new.

Microsoft Office 2008 SP1 includes updates for different components of its suite, such as:

  • Word.
  • Excel.
  • PowerPoint.
  • Entourage.
  • MSN Messenger.

The first version to work well on Mac

It wasn't until the arrival of this version of Office that Mac users can finally enjoy using Microsoft's tools on Apple's platform. They finally had stability when it came to creating documents, editing them or re-editing them. Now, with this update pack, we can correct any possible errors or flaws in the office suite.

Requirements and additional information:
  • Minimum operating system requirements: Mac OS X 10.4.9.
