There have been several projects set out to develop a proxy for Linux over the years, one of the most important being Harvest Cache Daemon, that once completed led to several new forks like Netapp's NetCache and Squid, that continued growing over the last few years.
Proxy compatible with HTML 1.0
Squid is a program that works from the command terminal, offering the users a wide range of possibilities when it comes to configuring it, among which they will find the possibility to cache the information of the websites that are visited most to accelerate the access to their data.
Even though Squid could originally only be configured from the terminal, over the last few years a few GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces) have also appeared, like Gadmin-squid that makes working with the program much easier, because it allows the users to view all the information about the options that have been activated clearly and modify everything without having any need to resort to the command line terminal.
