It's more than possible that despite having a car with a modern GPS satellite-based navigation, you still get lost and have to resort to your phone and Google Maps. Although there are now some more interesting alternatives (such as the promising Waze), it's always the first option that springs to mind. Furthermore, if you use Android it's probably already installed on your phone by default. If that's your case but you want to try out an alternative, Yandex, the Russian tech multinational specialized in Internet services and products now offers you Yandex.Maps.
It will help you get to your destination bearing in mind the current traffic situation: by car, on public transport or walking.
How it works
Well, its mechanism is basically a copy of Google Maps so there's nothing new under the sun in that sense. Open the app, select the route icon, establish a starting point and a destination, and find out how to get there on foot or by car, checking the different alternatives. You can establish several addresses as favorites, such as your home or your work. But if you're not interested in traveling, you've also got the chance to study full city maps. Anything else? You can check detailed maps switching between these options:
- Full color or night mode.
- 2D or 3D orientation.
- Map, satellite or hybrid view.
- Saved maps.
- Offline maps.
- Parking, transport, and traffic layers.
Search for places and addresses without connecting to the Internet.
Obviously, it couldn't be missing a voice-dictation system. You can also check public transports but depending on your area, this service may not be available yet. This app is halfway between Russian and English but it's really intuitive so you won't have any problems using it, especially if you're used to other similar services.
