It's possible to cast a Chrome tab, the screen of the PC or music and videos to a Chromecast device connected to a TV. We’ll show you how to do so in all situations.

In any of the three abovementioned cases, you’ll need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • A Chromecast device.
  • A computer with Windows Vista or higher, with a Core i3 processor or higher, and an Intel HD3000 GPU or higher.
  • Google Chrome web browser.
  • Both the PC and Chromecast must be connected to the same WiFi network.

How to send a Chrome tab to Chromecast

To cast the content of a tab from Chrome to your PC to a Chromecast device, open Chrome and click on the icon of the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner of the interface, which grants access to the settings. There, select the Cast… option from the list.

Wait until the browser finds the device and once it does, press on the device in question.

If you would like to cancel the streaming, press the device again. When the connection has been established, you will be able to see the icon of a blue screen in the browser.

At times, some platforms and services will allow you to directly cast the signal of their native players in the screen of the TV. In such cases, the Send... icon that enables this option will appear. You just have to click on it to stream the content, but bear in mind that although the images will be shown on both devices, the sound will only be played on the TV. The sound of other tabs of the browser or other software can still be heard from the speakers of the PC.

This is the simplest way to do it. Besides, you can add the Send... button to the toolbar so that it's easily accessible; you just have to right click on the icon that appears on this bar when you look for supported devices, and select the option Always show the icon on the pop-up menu.

How to send your PC screen to Chromecast

If instead of casting the content of one tab of the browser you wish to cast your PC screen’s signal to the TV, open Chrome, click on the icon of the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser and select Cast...

When the device becomes visible, press the Sources button at the bottom of the Window, which will open a new menu with different sources, including Cast desktop. Choose this option.

How to send music and video from your PC to Chromecast

Another option is to send only videos and music, run Chrome in your PC, and press the settings button, the one with the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner. Select the Cast… menu.

Press the down arrow corresponding to Sources and select Cast file.

That will open a file explorer in Windows, which will allow you to browse your computer’s folders. Select the audio or video file that you want to send to Chromecast and press open in the bottom right corner of the window.
