Playing high-definition videos on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 isn't as hard as what it may seem. Playback is a wonderful program that allows us to share our files with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Thanks to this program we can turn our video console into an Apple TV as it also allows us to play any content stored on our Mac.

The program is compatible with Growl, therefore, we'll be able to keep an eye on information about how our libraries are being used at all times. Although it costs about 10 dollars, the tool offers us up to three different licenses, one of which is a free trial.

How does it work?

How it works is very simple. We've only got to boot the software and press the "Start" button that will enable the "Media Sharing". Once running, we can start sharing contents. Furthermore, Playback also allows us to transfer MKV files, even in HD.

Once we've done so, we can configure individually what we want to share and how. Just select the "Movies" or "Music" tab and you'll be able to choose whether to share everything in iTunes or the content of a specific folder. Furthermore, you can easily set up a server to broadcast video straight to your console via streaming allowing us to avoid the conversion process and having to embed subtitles.

Requirements and additional information:

  • The trial version has certain limitations.
  • Requires Java.
