Together with Pac-Man, Mario Bros, Street Fighter or Pong, this a game that doesn't require any kind of introduction. Or maybe it does, if you've been living in a cave, in a bunker or a monastery, ever since June 1984, the date on which it was published.
It's a version of the classic TETRIS for iPhone developed by Electronic Arts but maintaining the essence of the original game and incorporating some new elements and variations to update it to a certain extent. And instead of taking place in the former Soviet Union, it's set in outer space.
Three game modes for Tetris
That's why this new version incorporates three game modes that obviously include the classic one which is here called Marathon:
- Marathon: as we mentioned, it's the classic game mode that's all about completing level after level unlimitedly. That's how we all got hooked on at some point in our lives, whether on an arcade machine, a PC or a video console.
- Explore the galaxy: travel the galaxy visiting different stars that offer us different challenges.
- Explorers: here you can challenge other players in the online mode.
In this version, we can make use of power-ups that we can purchase with the coins we earn by turning the tetrimino blocks into rewards.
In turn, it comes along with new features that we couldn't use over three decades ago. For instance, a function to control our progress so we know how many rows we've removed. And obviously the possibility to sync the game to our Facebook account and share our scores on the popular social network.
Whether you played it back then or not because you were too young, we invite you to download one of the best video games ever developed and that's still addictive as it was the very first day and that comes along with an interesting and peculiar story about its developer, Aleksei Pazhitnov who initially didn't receive any money despite the game's success because the Soviet government was in charge of exploiting the title.
