The first thing to do to update Google Play is to find out if there is a new version available. To check it, look for the Settings application on your device and access it. Once there, scroll down and tap on Apps & notifications, or any other similar entry that grants access to the full list of installed apps. Menus may vary from one Android version to another, customization layers, and manufacturers.

Now, go to the bottom of the screen and write down the version number you see.

You should compare that version number with the download number provided at the end of this guide. Do they match? In that case, your app is up to date and you do not need to do anything else since you already have the latest version available.

But if our version number is higher than the store app you have installed, it is time to upgrade. Tap on the green Download button at the end of the guide and get the APK file. When the download is complete, find the file in your download directory and tap on it. In the new window, you will be warned that the app already exists and you will install an update. Confirm by tapping on the bottom right corner of the screen, Install.

A few seconds later, the process will be finished, an on-screen notification will let you know, and you will be able to open Google Play from that window by tapping on Open or from the corresponding icon in your app menu.

Google Play Store is a native app in most cases, so it may be a little strange that this tool is also updated, but it is renewed periodically to add new elements and implement security improvements. It usually updates itself automatically without you having to do anything.

Another way to check if your version of the Google Play Store is up to date is to tap on the three-stripe menu in the upper left corner of the app's home screen. Tap on Settings and scroll down to the Play Store Version line. Gently tap on this option and the application will tell you whether it is up to date or not.
