People have been saying for a few years now that mobile platforms are the future of gaming. Maybe that’s a slightly bold claim (particularly if you look at how the guys making money from games are in consoles and PCs), but what can’t be denied is that mobile gaming is the haunt of occasional gamers; people who aren’t too bothered by the big games, but who every now and again have a little play on their phone or tablet.

Thanks to those people, developers have put out games which you could say are mobile-specific, like endless runner games or strategy and management games like our Restaurant Story. The game has been around for a while, but despite its age it’s become one of the most downloaded of its type.

A mobile game with a hint of nostalgia

It doesn’t seem possible that you could be talking about nostalgia with a mobile game (you might have expected nostalgia with games from the 8 and 16 bit era perhaps) but Restaurant Story is definitely going to give you a welcome return to the recent past; specifically to the time when Farmville was devastating a lot of people’s social lives.

Immersing yourself in Restaurant Story is a healthy nostalgia trip.

The game is simple to play, but not easy:

1. Choose the dishes for your menu.
2. Tap the screen as required to complete the steps in each recipe.
3. Wait for your dish to cook, or skip cooking by paying diamonds (the premium currency of the game).
4. When they’re ready, serve your dishes.

At first you won’t have many dishes to cook, but you unblock them as you go up the levels. How do you do that? By serving customers and sending them away happy. And how do you send your customers away happy? By making sure they have food and somewhere to sit.

This way of progressing will quickly see you run up against the core dilemma of the game: the more satisfied customers there are leaving your restaurant, the more popular it will be and the more customers will turn up. This will mean that you soon run out of food and empty tables, which in turn will make customers angry and leave without eating, so depressing the popularity of your restaurant. Your mission is to stop that happening.
