Google has been developing for quite some time a group of applications under the name of GO. We're talking about new versions of its most popular apps but much lighter and adapted to smartphones and tablets with a lower capacity.
Now, after publishing other lite versions of the likes of Maps Go or YouTube Go, the Internet giant comes along with Google Assistant Go, the new lite version of its virtual assistant that consumes fewer resources and less battery than the main version with almost all the same features and options.
Main features of Google's GO version of the virtual assistant
By means of a few simple voice commands that the user can easily remember, this version of Google Assistant will be able to take care of the following actions without even requiring us to touch our smartphone or tablet:
- Possibility to quickly make phone calls.
- Play music from YouTube or from the player.
- Send text messages.
- Browse the Internet to search for information or an address.
- Look up the weather forecast.
- Discover what events are taking place near our location.
- Ask questions and receive a reply.
However, unlike the full version of Google's personal assistant, this APK file won't allow us to control our home by voice as it includes fewer voice commands and it's probably not compatible with the Hey Google handsfree or the OK Google command.
For the time being, the application is only available in English, so we'll have to wait to try it out in other languages. Furthermore, it's not very useful at present because it's an app developed for low-end devices with hardly any memory or RAM but it requires Android 8.0. which sounds quite contradictory at this moment in time.
