There are two methods to add friends in Fortnite: from the game or the Epic Games app. Adding them from the Fortnite home platform is the fastest and easiest way, but for very specific cases, it may be better for us to use the Epic Games Launcher program. So, let us explain both methods to you.
Requirements for adding friends in Fortnite
Before explaining how to add friends, it is necessary to remember a couple of requirements.
- First, console players must enable cross-platform play to play with Android friends.
- On the other hand, we must know the Epic nickname of our friend to be added. And be careful, the Epic nickname is not the same as the player's name on the console (in case our friend plays on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo). The name we need is the one that appears when connecting to the Epic Games website or platform.
Add friends from Fortnite
Just tap on the menu on the left (Options button or + on the remote control) to display the friend's menu.

A menu will pop up, then, tap on the Add Friends tab, and now, on the Enter Display Name box. As the box says, we must enter the player's name.
Steps to add friends from the start platform
After entering the name, all matching results will be displayed. This is useful because we can find a friend if we only remember part of their nickname.
Search for the name on Epic or part of the word
Once we find our friend's name among the results, we tap on it and select Add Friend.

There is another option to add friends, and it is from the PC application Epic Games Launcher, available for download by clicking below.
From the Epic Games application on the right side, click on the Friends menu.

A new tab will pop up, and a text box will appear asking you to enter your friend's Epic name. After that, all we have to do is click on Add a Friend.

If our friend has a special character in the nickname (sometimes we will see nicks with weird things like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), we can search for that character in Google and copy and paste it to send the friendship invitation.
As the last step, we must wait for our friend to accept our friend request. If we are the ones who receive the friend request, in Fortnite, we can accept it from the Add Friends menu, by clicking Accept on the request received.
