Goole was born as a web search engine that worked slightly different to how others did so back then. Instead of searching by directories, it applied a complex algorithm that helped it gain in speed and efficiency.

The greatest image bank in the world. However, they're not for free.

Whilst it was beating its rivals (Yahoo, Lycos, Altavista...) and started becoming the Internet giant it is today, it also implemented other functions that expanded the search engine's main tools. One of them was Google Images, allowing us to search for images all over the Internet.

How to search by name or image

Whether you're looking for funny pictures, Christmas images, photos of cats, dogs, celebrities, landscapes or cars... you can find any kind of snap or illustration by making the correct query. That would by the ordinary way of searching: typing in the text and hitting the Enter key.

But, you can also search by image. How? Well, you've basically got to follow these simple instructions:

  1. Step 1: Go to the search box and click on the icon that looks like a photo camera.
  2. Step 2: Paste the URL of an image to search for similar pictures.
  3. Step 3: Or upload the image straight from your hard drive if you've got a copy.

Thus, it offers us similar results to the photo we're searching for... The latter can be very useful if we need to find the original source image or we want to find out something about property rights or copyright.

As you can see, it's very easy to use... just like the usual old Google. It also comes along with a SafeSearch filter to make sure uncomfortable images don't pop up in the most embarrassing situations.
