There are many games similar to Fortnite's Battle Royale mode, almost all of them came later, but Fortnite was not the first. Let's take a look at some of the most outstanding ones.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)

Although there were some mods that were already experimenting with the Battle Royale concept, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was the first video game to popularize the genre. Months later, Fortnite: Battle Royale, would come out, stealing the spotlight, but at the time PUBG was a phenomenon.

Compared to Fortnite, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a more realistic-looking graphical game. At the gameplay level, there are no constructions, so it is much more important to know how to aim at a distance and avoid being spotted by other players, as it is not so easy to take cover.

Call of Duty: Warzone

After the success of PUBG and Fortnite, the gaming community was waiting for a response from the market leader in shooters, Activision. The Call of Duty saga did not have its own Battle Royale until 2020, but the long development time served to create an ambitious game, where up to 200 players (in some temporary modes) play against each other on the same map.

Again, the most notable differences between this game and Fortnite are the realistic visual style of Call of Duty and the impossibility of building as we can do in the Epic Games creation.

Apex Legends

Another outstanding game in the Battle Royale genre is Apex Legends. Electronic Arts' bet is clearly different from the previous two, being a game closer to Overwatch in terms of gameplay.

In Apex Legends, we team up with two other players, each choosing a role in the game. In addition, games have a maximum of 60 simultaneous players instead of the 100 allowed by Fortnite.

Fall Guys

If what we want is to play a Battle Royale game, but not a shooting game, Fall Guys is one of the most interesting options. Up to 60 people play the game and must run to reach the finish line first, avoiding all kinds of obstacles.

In these races, players can "troll" their rivals and push them back to the start or at least lose valuable time in order to reach the finish line.

Tetris 99

One of the most iconic puzzle games of all time also has a Battle Royale version. In Tetris 99, we have to beat 98 other players, whose game is shown on either side of ours (yes, we are watching 99 games simultaneously).

In this version of Tetris, at all times, we face an opponent that we choose either automatically or manually so that each line that we complete is transformed into a line that happens to be placed on the screen of our opponent.
